Pick The Right Shampoo For Your Hair Type

Using the right shampoo is the critical first step to having healthy hair. Your shampoo must remove the oils your scalp secretes, environmental dirt that clings to your hair and the remains of hair styling products. It needs to thoroughly clean without stripping all the natural oils from your hair.

The combination of ingredients that will do this vary based on your hair type.

Say you have blonde, chemically treated, dry hair that is very thick in density and generally has an average texture.

You’ll need products to address concerns of :

  • dryness/dehydration,
  • breakage/brittleness,
  • fly-aways/frizziness and
  • color fading;

Tips & Suggestions for Thick or Coarse Hair:

Thick hair means you have more strands of hair on your head than the average person.

For thick hair you should use hair products that will help give you more manageability.

Products specifically formulated to use on thick or coarse hair will have:

  • Silicones to add shine and silkiness
  • Moisturizers to help soften hair
  • Detanglers that add a coating to make hair strands slide away from each other
  • Smoothening agents to "fill in" cracks in the outside layer of your hair (the cuticle), giving hair a smoother, shinier finish
  • Antioxidants, which encourage more vibrant hair and a healthier scalp, and protect hair from future damage.
Shampoo Tip:

Massage the scalp while you shampoo to increase your natural circulation and restore hair’s vibrancy. Avoid rubbing hair against hair – it increases breakage. When towel-drying, blot, and squeeze, don’t rub.
